Several vehicles have been targeted for their diesel in Old Whittington, which may encourage the installation of steel gates across the area.

The fuel was stolen from the British Telecom Exchange on Holland Road overnight between October 8th and 9th.

Derbyshire Police has revealed that the offenders must have used a number of containers to remove the diesel from the scene and is now appealing for any witnesses.

PC Stuart Hind who is investigating the crime commented: "They may have been using a vehicle and may have gained access from open land at the rear."

He asked anyone who witnessed "anything unusual or suspicious at the exchange" to contact the police and help them catch the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, Humberside Police recently revealed that there has been a spate of thefts in the area, so therefore urged homeowners to ensure their properties are secure.

The force advised against leaving windows open, even if only leaving the property for a short time.
