Residents in Hampshire are becoming increasingly frustrated with broken traffic barriers on the crossroads near to Mottisfont and Dunbridge station.

Many motorists have voiced their annoyance of the gates being stuck in the "down" position despite the threat of oncoming trains and many people believe it is "only a matter of time" before there is a serious accident.

Police have been called out to the Kimbridge crossing various times and some drivers have been left waiting up to 20 minutes before an engineer turns up to repair the broken barrier.

Whilst the station only handles just under 22,000 passengers a year it is part of the connecting line to Southampton and can see a number of hi-speed trains pass through it.

A spokesman for Network Rail told the Southern Daily Echo: "The recent level crossing failures have been caused primarily by either a problem with the equipment on the track or as a result of a problem with the external electricity supply which powers the crossing equipment."
