Traffic barriers have successfully combated the problem of boy racers at a Morrisons car park in Shropshire which had been described as a "stunt arena" and "race track".

According to the Shropshire Star, a joint operation between the police and supermarkets resulted in parking barriers being deployed at the site, in Wellington.

Locals had reported young drivers meeting up at the car park late at night to perform stunts in their cars.

But now the barriers have been put up no one can get onto the car park after the supermarket closes.

"The barriers are in place which means nobody can get on to the car park outside store opening hours," sergeant Russ Yeomans, of Wellington police, told the newspaper.

"We are certainly not getting the complaints we were," he added.

The newspaper also reported that the police felt action needed to be taken before somebody was seriously hurt.

Earlier this month a woman in Dorset called for the introduction of security bollards on her street, to help cars keep control during particularly treacherous weather.ADNFCR-3337-ID-800123264-ADNFCR
