Work on a roundabout near Rotherham is set to begin as part of a £1.4 million project by the Highways Agency.

Traffic barriers and signals are to be installed at the entry points to the Hellaby roundabout at Junction 1 of the M18 near the Yorkshire town. Work will begin on January 9th and is expected to take nine weeks to complete.

Sections of the roundabout will be widened, while resurfacing of the road adding a new high-friction surface on the approach. Rotherham council has already contributed £80,000 to the renovation.

Tim Calvert, Highways Agency project sponsor, said: "This scheme will make the roundabout far more efficient and safer by regulating traffic flows, especially at peak times when traffic heading from the A631 can cause queues on the exit slip roads from the motorway."

Motorists using the M5 in Taunton are also expected to see traffic barriers put up as work on improving safety on the road is due to begin in the New Year.
